House of Hackney
HOUSE OF HACKNEY was founded around a kitchen table in a home in Hackney, London, by husband-and-wife team Javvy M Royle and Frieda Gormley. Sharing a passion for interiors and a background in fashion and product design, they decided to create what they had been searching for; in the great tradition of British print houses, a brand which championed print, colour and texture, taking inspiration from the past while making a modern statement. After a decade of minimalism, the brand captured the zeitgeist and the imagination of a new generation. The House of Hackney founders knew that high-quality products crafted by skilled workers came at a price, however they wanted to ensure the finished product would be sold at an accessible price point. Morris’ adage, “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful,” feels particularly relevant to House of Hackney.
